Student Government Holds Winter Fundraiser

by Shayna Barak, SSLI '27

Yesterday, Student Government hosted a winter fundraiser, selling cozy foods in the wing during these cold, winter days.

Junior Hannah Fineman, the treasurer of Student Government, explained that their cause was the “annual Purim trip to RPM race course.” The money raised cycles back to help fund the activities for the students, as Fineman adds, “In order to go, the student government has to chip in some money.”

Sara Rosenthal, a freshman who contributed to the fundraiser, shared some insight on why she found it important for students to support the school: “They provide the funds for all the fun activities the student gov does for us throughout the year.”

In terms of the food, Fineman noted that they “sold freshly baked cookies, ramen, hot cocoa, and homemade ice cream sandwiches.” She explained that those treats were chosen “as a little pick-me-up in the winter storm around us.”

Rosenthal’s choice of comfort foods was a cup of marshmallows. She was very happy with her order, adding that they were “high quality marshmallows, ten out of ten, would recommend.” She also found the Student Government members to be very accommodating to whatever the students wanted to buy.

Rosenthal described her experience as being "funny," adding, "They were like, ‘We’ve gotten weirder requests today; we had to give someone a quarter of a scoop of ice cream. Here’s your cup of marshmallows, just give us a dollar.’”

Rosenthal concluded, “The students selling them were very nice about [everything], and didn’t judge me at all for my weird request.”
