Sports Recap: Softball and Volleyball

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

This week, spring sports officially started. Both Girls Varsity Softball and Boys Varsity Volleyball are in full swing, preparing for their first games of the season in just a few weeks.

Softball

Today and on Monday, Girls Varsity Softball went to "The Batting Cage." All the players got to bat multiple times and were able to see where they are at and where there is room for improvement. Captain and junior Addison Pravato is happy that many players returned to the team and that the team gained a few new players as well.

Coach Dylan Stephenson explained that practices have been going well and that “the girls' swings are already looking in mid-season form.” Pravato added, “As we kept batting, I was getting more and more confident in the team's ability to play.”

“I want our team to build on the things we did well and improve on some of the things we could have done better,” Stephenson explained.

Freshman and new member Madison Hoffman chose to join softball because she wanted to have another activity after school since volleyball ended. Hoffman is “looking forward to meeting new people and becoming better at playing softball.”

Stephenson added, “It’s going to be a very fun and exciting season for us!”

Boys Varsity Volleyball

The boys have been practicing all week for their game on Thursday, March 14. With the help of Mr. Dieckmann, who is filling in while Coach Josh Jurysta is out, the team is in good hands. Captain Liam Golan is excited and confident for the upcoming season. Golan stated, “I am confident that if we continue to practice well and play hard, we will be successful.”

Sophomore Micah Bidner is looking forward to improving his volleyball skills. Bidner explained, “We have a great team made up of lots of talented people, so this season should be really great!”

Freshman Brian Melzer is a new player to the team. He decided to join because it is a “fun and good way [to get] exercise.”

Golan concluded, “I am excited to get into the groove and to hopefully have many successful games and wins in the future.”
