Breaking News: New Student Body President...For The Day

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

Editor's Note: For today's article, Paw Print Now writer Talia Herbst interviewed Maya Honig, who was the Student Body President for the day. Maya received this prestigious position, and all its awesome powers and responsibilities, as an auction prize during the 2024 Schechter Gala.

Talia Herbst [TH]: How did it feel to be President of the School for the Day?

Maya Honig [MH]: It was very fun being President of the School for the Day. I got to skip my fourth grade classes, and I hung out with the high schoolers instead. I like controlling the school because my Savta controls the school.

TH: What decisions did you make?

MH: I declared a pop-up Spirit Day and made today Pajama Day for the whole school. Other than that, I haven't made any other decisions.

TH: What special activities were you able to do today as president?

MH: I got to go to The Wing store and get a free snack, and I got to go to some of the high school classes and see what it is like to be in high school.

TH: What privileges did you get as president?

MH: The Student Government got me Starbucks. I got to have a walkie talkie to communicate with Elinor [the Upper School Student Body President], and I got to make morning announcements with Addison, and I had a meeting with the Student Government.

TH: How did you like going to some high school classes with members of the Student Government?

MH: For me, it was really fun because I sat there with a member from the Student Government. I played some games in class and also participated a little bit. I liked being there because it was very entertaining.

TH: What was your favorite part of the day?

MH: My favorite part of the day was getting Starbucks and going to high school classes.

TH: Did this one day of being president inspire you to be president when you are in high school?

MH: Definitely. I really want to be president when I am in high school.

TH: Anything else you would like to add?

MH: I had lots of fun being president today. I definitely want to do this all over, everyday.
