Carly's Favorite Article of the 2023-24 School Year

by Carly Smith, SSLI '25

Editor's Note: PPN continues a tradition of winding down our year of reporting by celebrating each editor's favorite post.

There were so many amazing articles this year, so it was so hard to choose a favorite. However, I think that my favorite article from the 2023-24 reporting season was "Yom HaAliyah!" by Hannah Fineman. I'm pretty sure that this is one of PPN's longest articles, and Hannah did a great job encapsulating the full day.

Today's celebrated writer! (C. Smith)

In the first section of the article, Hannah wrote about alumnus and IDF veteran Ira Kohler visiting and speaking to the high school. Hannah explained his talk well and was even able to get an interview from Kohler himself, which I think really added to the article and made it extremely impressive. She also interviewed students from three different grades (which is hard to do) to share their thoughts on his visit, which further helped the readers understand the importance of the day.

Next, Hannah covered the Student Government Elections as well as the environmental program. Hannah did a great job informing readers of the somewhat-complicated program, and I think the readers were able to imagine what happened. Lastly, Hannah wrote about Battle of the Classes. I liked how, again, Hannah described the events really clearly.

This article was a huge task. We are so lucky to have Hannah as one of our staff writers. She is reliable, a great writer, and I am looking forward to seeing everything she reports on next year!
