Summer is Upon Us!

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

As the school year is coming to an end and high school classes are wrapping up tomorrow, Schechter students are excited and looking forward to the many plans that they have in store for this summer. Some students are going to Israel, while others are going on teen tours and working. We hope all students take the time to relax and have fun.

Junior Hannah Fineman will be working as a lifeguard this summer at Lifetime. She will also be taking some college courses at a local college. She shared that she “wants to go to the beach as much as [she] can and go in the ocean because the ocean is [her] happy place.”

Sophomore Micah Bidner will be going to Barcelona through West Coast Connections for a month. While he is there, he will be taking classes for three weeks and then traveling around Spain for one week. When the trip is over, he might go to Israel at the end of the summer and might go college touring. He is looking forward to “visiting some important Jewish sites such as the really old synagogues that they have there.”

Student Body President Elinor Schlissel will be working at a pool club as a gate guard. She will be greeting guests when they come in and getting them all checked in. She is also going on a trip with her siblings and parents to a lakehouse in Pennsylvania and going on a family vacation. It is the first time her entire family has taken a family vacation since COVID. Elinor added that she is looking forward to “relaxing [while] getting time to hang out with friends, and being able to complete all the things on her Summer Bucket List, which includes going to the zoo with Ellie!

Sophomore Shir Levenson is going to Israel with NCSY for five weeks. She is very glad that she has “the chance of being in Israel, enjoying the country, traveling, and just having time off to relax and be with friends.” Part of the trip is being a counselor at a camp in Israel, while the other part is spent touring around Israel.

Freshman Yoni Pedram is also going to Israel this summer. He will be going on a three-week trip with CTeen. He said, “I can't wait to go to the Kotel and visit the Shuk. I am beyond excited to go!”

Schlissel concluded, “I can’t wait for summer! I will also be working on planning retreat and can’t wait to see everyone there!”
