POTUS Club Leads Program about Upcoming Presidential Election

 by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

This morning, high school students got the opportunity to hear about tomorrow’s presidential election from members of POTUS (Politics of the United States) Club.

President Micah Bidner presented about the Electoral College. (Y. Pedram)

The program began with a presentation by club president Micah Bidner; he introduced the election, how the Electoral College works, and why it is important to vote. After this presentation, students dispersed into classrooms to learn about some of the major political policy topics. The topics in the classrooms included learning about Israel, the economy, abortion rights, gun control, and immigration.

Bidner thought the whole program went well. He said, “There was a lot of engagement from both students and teachers.” He continued, "The group sessions gave students a chance to dive into specific topics." Bidner hopes the students were able to gain something and become more educated on these topics.

Junior Amit Chanoch presented alongside junior Shay Ginzburg. Chanoch felt “the message was properly delivered to all of the audience members. We were able to fit a lot of important information about a relevant topic in less than twenty minutes.”

Chanoch elaborated on his presentation: “I planned a civil discussion and presentation about abortion and its deep nuances in today’s current political climate.”

Senior Natalie Gordon listened to the presentation about abortion rights and the presentation about gun laws. In both rooms, the presenters explained the history of the laws as well as what Kamala Harris and Donald Trump plan to do. She explained, “As a woman, I felt it was important to learn about each candidate's views on abortions.... It also felt important to hear about gun rights because I know that our country experiences a lot more gun violence than others, and it was important to hear how it could be changed.”

Bidner is super proud of the POTUS Club for putting this program together. He added, “Everyone put in a lot of effort, and it showed. It’s great to see so many students engaging with these topics, especially because they’ll be voters themselves soon.”

The POTUS club would like to thank Mr. Trupin and Ms. DeLaire for being very helpful and supportive in putting this program together!
