Student Government Hosts Fall Fest

by Hannah Fineman, SSLI '25

Today, the Upper School student body came together at the Wing for “Fall Fest.” This fall celebration, hosted by the Student Government, had the entire high school cheerfully embracing fall and coming together as a community.

For Fall Fest, Student Government members decorated The Wing for fall and handed out free Munchkins and hot chocolate. Student Body President Elinor Schlissel explained, “Fall Fest is important for a few reasons … it just raises spirit, and it makes people more excited.” She continued, saying that Fall Fest shows Student Government’s “presence in the school and that we’re here to help the student body.”

In past years, Fall Fest was a fundraiser done by the Student Government to raise money for the upcoming year. When making the decision to give out free food for this event, Schlissel explained that the entire Executive Board felt “that doing stuff for the students was more important than making money.”

This decision clearly resonated with the student body. Sophomore Yoni Pedram said, “It made me feel better … to know that the Student Government cares and would provide us with free food. It’s very generous of them, and we really appreciate it.”

“It really made me excited to see what the Executive Student Government is capable of,” said Senior Ellie Strachan.  She continued, “We all came together and were hanging out and talking. There was a lot of laughter.”

Freshman Elan Golan shared, “The free food and hot chocolate was my favorite part of Fall Fest.” Still, Golan added that marshmallows could have made the event an even bigger success.

“My favorite part of the actual Fall Fest was the leaves around the Wing sign,” said Schlissel. She continued, “I think it looks super cute, and I spent a lot of time cutting out the leaves and taping them.” Schlissel emphasized, though, that her other “favorite Fall Fest moment was when we first opened The Wing … and everybody came running over and everybody was really excited, and you just saw like the joy that people had for Fall Fest, and that the giving out of the food and promoting … really worked.”

“I really love the fall decor in the wing… I really think that it brought the fall festivities to life, and it also just brightened our hallways in general,” shared Strachan.

Overall, Fall Fest was definitely a success. Schlissel concluded, “I was excited to see that there were a lot of smiles on peoples faces, and I thought The Wing looked really cute.... I think it couldn’t have gone better.”
