This week, Student Government hosted Kindness Week, and many of Schechter’s high school clubs participated in events and fundraising.
On Monday, Student Government hosted a “Thank-You Grams” event. Students and faculty wrote thank you notes to each other, and they were handed out to recipients during lunch with lollipops attached. Senior Yael Pedram, who helped hand them out, shared that this was “a really great way to bring together our school’s community.”

CAVOD (Connecting Allied Voices on Diversity) Club co-president Micah Bidner explained that on Tuesday, the club “gave out free M&Ms and Airheads to students to raise the mood and give students a little bit of kindness.” They also had a table set up with flags and stickers to raise LGBTQ+ awareness and bring joy.
On Wednesday, Environmental Club sold s’mores and donated the money to help firefighters. Sophomore Penina Charry, who bought from the fundraiser, shared that it felt relevant and important because “just this past week, [she] smelled smoke in the air because of brush fires in the Northeast… [and] forest fires on the West Coast.” Bidner agreed: It was “especially creative and raised funds for a good cause.”
Instead of a fundraiser, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club advertised a “Schechter Wears Blue” day on Thursday. A lot of students and faculty came to school in blue clothing, showing their unity and “commitment to being kind,” Pedram, SADD's co-president, shared. She added that the club gave out Hershey’s Kisses to spread kindness. Charry thought, “It was nice to see everyone [coming] together to show kindness to the whole school community.”
Bidner shared that he “loved how every club was given an opportunity to share a little bit of kindness and support [to] one another.”
Pedram concluded, “This kindness week was really a success!”
