Kesher Club's board did a great job running the fundraiser! (J. Jurysta)
At the fundraiser, club members sold cookies, Oreos, and Hershey Kisses while encouraging students to write comforting letters to victims of the fires. The club has not yet decided what organization they are donating the money to (because there are so many options), but they are certain that the donations will go to a cause that will help the people in California that were affected by the fires.
Senior Sasha Chernoff, President of Kesher Club, explained, “Kesher Club is [a] Schechter social action club, and part of our role in the community is to raise money and hold fundraisers.” Chernoff emphasized that Kesher aims “to help and give back to our local and global communities.”
Ms. Kassell, the advisor of the club, said, “Sometimes it's long-term collections, but sometimes it’s responding immediately to national natural disasters…. This [cause] is immediate.”
Senior and Social Media Coordinator of Kesher Ellie Strachan shared, “Originally, [the fundraiser] was supposed to be for something else, but now we decided since the wildfires are happening … this was much more of an important thing for us to raise awareness and money for.” Strachan added, “It means a lot to me because it's been really horrific to watch all these people be displaced and have this horrible wildfire attack their homes.”
The club raised about eighty dollars today and are looking forward to continuing the fundraiser tomorrow. Make sure to bring money and show your support!
