Last Saturday night, the Schechter Student Government hosted the Winter Formal. This was a fairy-tale-themed high school gathering where students had the opportunity to mix and mingle.

Senior Samson Mildron, Vice President of the Student Government, said, “We started maybe a couple months ago, thinking about what we have to do. We divided into committees. Some of us worked on the theme, some of us on the food, some of us on the decorations, and so we had to collect all these different aspects of it.”
Many students said that they loved seeing everyone loosen up during Winter Formal. They thought that the Winter Formal was a really fun way to make connections with people from other grades as well as people from their own grade.
Mildron said, “My favorite part about the formal is that it really brings our Schechter kehillah [community] together, and it really allows us to be free together. Everyone was sharing different dances from the camps that they go to, and we really brought the different parts of our one big, great Schechter kehillah together.” Mildron also enjoyed dancing and helping with the sound system.
Mikey Benlevi and Mr. Connelly ran a waffle station. Mr. Connelly said, “People were coming up to us. We had chocolate chips and whipped cream. We made little waffles; people put the toppings they wanted on, and everyone seemed to enjoy them.”
Ben Gorman, a freshman, “loved Mr. Connelly’s waffles. They definitely made the whole experience even more fun.”
Gorman went on to say, “It was a nice setting. [There was] not too many people there, and so it was fun. I did expect the entire gym to be used, but it was pretty good for what I expected.”
Brian Melzer, a sophomore, said that his favorite part of the formal was dancing with other students. “It was just as I expected, and so fun. I would one-hundred percent go again next year!”
Sam Levenson said, “Once people got into the dancing and realized that we should just enjoy ourselves, we had a great time.” Sam, among many students, loved when Hector, the Schechter mascot, came out and danced. He loved how that had “brought out the school’s spirit. The winter formal had exceeded my expectations, and I hope it can be even more fun next year.”
