Save a Child's Heart Club Holds Fundraiser

by Shir Levenson, SSLI '26

Today, the Save a Child’s Heart Club held a fundraiser for their organization, Save a Child's Heart (SACH), where they sold candy and desserts throughout the day.

The fundraiser was a success! (L. Botwinick)

SACH is an Israel-based organization that works to save the lives of critically-ill children suffering from heart disease in international countries where there is little to no healthcare access or medical support. These children are brought to Israel for life-saving care, support, and rehabilitation, guided by medical experts in the field.

SSLI’s SACH chapter works to advocate for the needs of these children and raise awareness and funds for the organization. Junior and Co-President of the club Layna Botwinick shared, “I think it's important to spread awareness for such an important cause, and I feel like, at Schechter, we're…people who want to help other people, and I think this club said a lot about that, and I think by raising money it shows how much we care.”

The club sold many different treats. (SACH SSLI Instagram)

Sam Palter, a senior, bought cookies today for his friends. Palter explained that he enjoys fundraisers during school “because it just shows me that there's a lot of things that our diverse student body cares about--a lot of diverse issues.” He continued by adding that these organizations show that “we're a very passionate group of students that really enjoy taking time out of our day to learn and support various issues.”

Ms. Weston, an English teacher, bought Hershey Kisses to support today’s fundraiser. She said that she is “always happy to see the students coming together and organizing and fundraising for such a worthy cause. It creates such a sense of community, and I think it's important for the students to also be aware of their place in this world as global citizens.”

Botwinick shared that, today, they sold “a variety of sweets.” She concluded, “It's been really successful; we have made a ton of money in a short amount of time. We love this club, and we're devoted to it, and we hope to have many more fundraisers in the future.”
