Update on the Spring Musical

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

With the high school musical, Chicago, opening in less than a month, the cast and crew have been hard at work.

Recently, the cast has begun having more frequent rehearsals during the week and have been staying late after school. Ms. Weston, the director of the play, said the cast is “currently polishing our dance numbers, working hard on our vocals, and getting costumes and props ready.”

Despite the cast's small size, Weston noted, “Every performer has really upped their game! Each member is taking on multiple roles, which has been a fantastic opportunity for everyone to showcase their talents and versatility. It’s creating a unique dynamic that we’re excited to share with the audience.”

Junior Layna Botwinick explained, “The dances are our main concern, since a lot of the songs are fast and require lots of choreography. We have been tirelessly working on the dances, and they have been really coming together. We all know what we’re doing!” Botwinick continued, “After a long day at school, it’s nice to sing and dance to make us feel more awake.”

Another cast member, senior Natalie Gordon, is “most excited for everyone to see the big dances that we’ve been putting a lot of effort into.”

Weston concluded, “The audience can expect an energetic performance filled with toe-tapping music, stunning choreography, and a compelling story.”
