Between trips to the batting cages and practicing on the school field, our Schechter Girls Varsity Softball athletes have been working hard this season. Yesterday, the team played their first game against LuHi and, unfortunately, lost.Senior and Co-Captain Yael Pedram shared, “The game was okay. It was our first game of the season, and I think nerves got the best of us.” Pedram continued, “We've been practicing hard for a few weeks now, and even though we could've played better in the game, I really appreciate how hard everyone's been working in practice.”
Pedram also expressed that “Team morale is high” due to the “great chemistry between teammates,” which helps the team understand each other and boost each other up when needed.
Sophomore Penina Charry used this first game as a learning experience: “Although we didn’t get the result we hoped for, I think we had some really good plays.” Regarding her teammates, Charry said, “Addison [Pravato] had an amazing out at home plate, and both Elisha [Herbst] and Anna [Siegel] had great plays in the outfield.”

Charry added, “I think that our team is making really good progress. In practice, we are practicing our batting, fielding, and especially our plays.” She added, “We have a few games coming up next week, so I hope that we can come back from this game strong and keep playing.”
Senior and Co-Captain Talia Herbst reflected on the first game: “We had a few new starters, so they are still getting the hang of playing and being in live game situations. Considering this was our first game of the season, we did well.” Herbst continued, “The team has it in us to bring home a championship banner to the gym, so I hope we are able to succeed in doing that…. I also hope that we are all able to accomplish our own individual goals.”
Herbst shared, “As this is my last softball season and last Schechter sport I will ever play, which is sad, I am looking forward to a great season to end my time playing sports at Schechter.”
Pedram concluded, “I hope that we can continue to improve for our next game on Tuesday, and we bring home some wins. I can’t wait for the rest of the season!”
