Yesterday, Girls Varsity Volleyball and Junior Varsity (JV) Boys Basketball both had games against other schools in the Yeshiva League.
Girls Varsity Volleyball played against Schulamith LI, and won 3-0.
Coach Josh Jurysta shared that, during practices, the team has been “working on communication, individual skills, and a lot of passing.” Jurysta expressed that, during the game, the team was able to “keep the pace of the game at our pace, and slow the ball down to make sure that [we could] score.”
Senior and co-captain Shay Ginzburg shared some improvements she feels that the team can still make. Ginzburg is hoping the team can “set more balls when they’re ‘out of system’ instead of sending free balls over.” Ginzburg continued that this would “allow the team to increase [their] offensive strength and hopefully gain more points proactively.”
Junior and basketball player Brian Melzer shared that, overall, the team played pretty well given their situation. He said that they “only had five people on the court,” and during the game, one of their players got injured, so the team had to play with only four people on the court.
Similarly to players who voiced future improvements for the volleyball team, freshman Harrison Kolin is hoping the team can improve on their communication. Kolin also shared that they can work on getting better at “defense and offensive plays,” making them have a higher chance of scoring and hopefully winning.
Wishing all the Schechter sports teams good luck on their upcoming games. Go Lions!
