As warmer weather starts to make an appearance, spring sports are coming into session.
Girls Varsity Softball
Senior and captain Aviva Wolf said that during practices, they “have been working on fielding the ball. We have been really focused on interacting with surprise pop-up balls and grounders.”
Eighth grader and pitcher Zoey Diamond hopes to “improve on [her] pitching skills this season.” Diamond continued, “I also hope to cooperate and work together as a team.”
Wolf is hopeful for the first game and is “excited to see the team become closer throughout the season.”
Both girls are excited for the upcoming game.
Boys Varsity Volleyball
Sam Mitzner, a freshman, noted that “The scrimmage went fine. Teamwork and energy was very high, and everyone supported each other despite the errors. We didn’t win, but we kept the score close.”
Junior Sam Levenson remarked on last night's game. “The game was OK. I hoped that we would do a little better, but our couple weeks of practice showed up on the court, and I’m so proud of how we were able to go out there last night.” Levenson continued, “I think we could’ve worked on our defense a little more during the game. They had some pretty strong hitters on their team, and so if we were able to get around that, that would’ve been much better.”

Mitzner shared that, during practice, they have been “working on rotations, spiking and serving.”
For future games, Levenson hopes that they “can score a lot more and make our offense go faster. I think that if we clean up a lot of the smaller things, we will be in really good shape, because we already have a really strong foundation, and we’re a pretty solid team already.”
Boys Varsity Tennis
Mr. Maffei, Social Studies teacher and the boy’s tennis coach, stated, “As of now we are figuring out everybody’s ability level and seeing where everyone is at in terms of their skills, playing matches against each other and going over the rules. We are all just trying, myself included, to get comfortable. It’s been a long winter, and getting back outside again is a big adjustment.”
Sophomore Josh Fine said, "I'm hoping to improve on my backhand and on my physical stamina this season.” He hopes that “the upcoming match goes well and we win as many games as possible" and that "it's nice weather to play in.”
Wishing good luck to all of our teams. Go Lions!
