Kesher and SADD Fundraise For Mental Health Awareness Month

by Sam Levenson, SSLI '27

Today, the Kesher Club collaborated with the SADD Club to sell food and drinks to students in the upper school to raise money for the Teen Mental Health Hotline.

Kesher and SADD are clubs with similar goals. Kesher does fundraisers for local and global communities, and they donate to impactful organizations. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions. The SADD Club works to empower students to make positive decisions to improve their health and safety. Ms. Kassell, the advisor of Kesher, explained that these clubs have similar ideas, which makes them ideal to work together to raise money for an important cause.

At the fundraiser, members of both clubs sold hot chocolate, donuts, and Pop’Ems. Freshman Ephraim Berman supported the fundraiser. He stated, “The fundraiser idea itself was very good, and what it stood for ... was a very good thing.”

Many students bought from the fundraiser. Junior Talia Herbst, a member of SADD and Kesher, shared, “It was pretty successful. We don’t know exactly how much money we’ve made yet [as the fundraiser continues tomorrow], but we’ve raised a good amount.”

This fundraiser raised money for the Teen Mental Health Hotline. Herbst explained, “It’s a teen hotline organization, [which works on] suicide prevention, and it’s there for teens to call for help if they need.” Kassell also emphasized the importance of supporting this organization. She noted that teens often need someone to talk to, and this hotline needs to be there for them.

Berman shared, “It's important to support this cause because, sometimes, people just need someone to talk to, and there just isn't somewhere to go. They need funding for something like this … so they can be better equipped to help more people.”

The fundraiser will continue tomorrow, and the Kesher and SADD members are confident that they will continue their success. Herbst concluded, “We're continuing to raise more money, and hopefully tomorrow we'll have an even better outcome.”
