Last night, the Mock Trial defense team unfortunately lost their trial against Hicksville High School, ending this year's Mock Trial season. Nevertheless, the season was well fought, and everyone did a great job.
The team was proud of everything they accomplished this season. (S. Herbst)
Mock Trial Coach Ms. DeLaire stated, “I was very proud of our team's performance. We had some tough battles on cross-examination, but we hung in there and did our best.”
The highlight of the trial for junior Ellie Strachan, who acted as a lawyer, was presenting the opening statement. Strachan had to carefully and clearly make it known that the defendant was innocent. Flyer said his favorite part was “going up on the witness stand and being able to dodge difficult questions [while] standing my ground.” Next year, Flyer hopes to get the opportunity to be a lawyer.
Throughout the trial, the judge had to make difficult determinations. DeLaire explained, “Although I may not always agree with every ruling, part of the skill of Mock Trial is adapting to what different judges prefer and allow during the trial.”
Strachan hopes that, next year, the team will make it farther into the competition. She is looking forward to working with “our amazing team and any new members we get.”
DeLaire concluded, “I would like to congratulate our team on our two back-to-back wins this season! That's an amazing achievement. Kol HaKavod!”
