Drama Club Gets "Mean": Coverage and Review of This Year's Musical

 by Yonatan Pedram, SSLI ‘27

This past Thursday and Sunday, Schechter’s Drama Club performed the musical Mean Girls. The club, advised by Ms. Weston, includes Schechter’s best actors. The play took place at the Long Island Children's Museum and was performed impeccably.

The play required heavy preparation, which paid off at their awesome performance. Sophomore and Drama Club Assistant Director Shir Levenson emphasized the hard work and dedication of the club in the process of preparing for the play: “Both actors and stage crew worked so incredibly hard for the production, and it really paid off!”

While acting in the play required much effort, the actors seemed to enjoy participating in the club. Junior Carly Smith, who played the role of Karen, shared her enjoyment of acting in the play and being able to connect with her peers. “I had an amazing time being able to hang out with my friends and bond with the cast members," Smith said. "Also, I got to do a lot of the funny lines, so during the show it was really nice to hear the audience laughing.”

The play turned out to be an immense success. The play was funny and attention-grasping and was enjoyed by faculty, students, alumni, parents, and more. Schechter freshman Sam Levenson, a viewer and crew-member of the show, shared his favorite scenes from the drama. “My favorite scene was the dance party at Cady’s house. It was funny to see most of the cast partying, and Rebecca Bazini’s rapping was also funny.”

The actors enjoyed Drama Club so much that they plan on participating in the club next year, too. Junior Risa Rogers, who played Gretchen, commented on her eagerness to attend the club next year, saying, “I am definitely going to be in the play next year. I have been in the school shows since elementary school, and performing is something that I love. I hope that we choose a show as fun and amazing as Mean Girls next year.”
