by Penina Charry, SSLI '27

This week, Boys Varsity Volleyball had one game, and Girls Varsity Softball is continuing to prepare for their future games.

Girls Varsity Softball

Despite the cold, Girls Varsity Softball has been working hard this season and is currently undefeated! This week, they were supposed to have three games; however, due to the rainy weather recently, they were rescheduled. The girls used this week to prepare for their future games.

Talia Herbst, a junior and the pitcher for the team, reported, “I have been working on my positioning for slap tagging for when a player is stealing home.” She and junior Addison Pravato, the catcher and co-captain of the team, have also been working on their communication as pitcher and catcher.

Coach Dylan Stephenson said, “Throughout the season, our team has really gotten better in every facet of the game. Fielding, hitting, and base running [have] been three major components of what they have gotten a lot better at since the first day.”

Stephenson added, “A lot of games are coming up, and we will do our best to keep our team rolling … while improving ourselves as players in the process.”

Herbst concluded, “I look forward to continuing our season and watching everyone improve. We are undefeated, and I hope we can keep that title and ultimately become champions!”

Boys Varsity Volleyball

Boys Varsity Volleyball has also been putting in a lot of practice and time to prepare for their games. On Wednesday, they played a game against the Knox school. Unfortunately, the Knox school defeated Schechter 3-0, but Boys Varsity Volleyball played their hardest, and the sets were very close. They were 25-21, 25-22, and 25-23.

Freshman Ephraim Berman said, “There’s definitely been [improvements] in our practices.” He explained that everyone is doing better than when the season started.

Coach Josh Jurysta expressed that the team's offense is improving. Jurysta also pointed out that the team has been “a lot more consistent behind the serving line.” During practices, players are working on getting their skills up to speed, so they can be ready for games. Jurysta stated, “We’re moving in the right direction.”

Berman concluded, “We’re just getting ready for the games like there’s no tomorrow.”
