Schechter STREAM Day

 by Talia Herbst, SSLI ‘25

Yesterday, Schechter held its annual STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading and Writing, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Day. STREAM Day showcases students' work that they developed throughout the year.

Usually, STREAM Day is three hours, but this year, it was two. This decision was made by Science Department Chair and teacher Mr. Wilen, who helped plan this day and was proud to say, “STREAM Day was successful and well attended!”

Some students went to STREAM Day to present their projects to the Schechter community. Freshmen Sara Rosenthal and Ephraim Berman presented their engineering project ARRIVE. Rosenthal shared, “We got some good feedback from people that we hadn’t thought to ask about the project before, and it will help us as we continue to build our device.”

Junior Noah Schor presented his AP Research project and said it “went well.” Sophomore Micah Bidner presented both his engineering project and his AP Seminar IMP (Individual Multimedia Presentation), which also was very well-received. Bidner stated, “It was great being able to practice my presentation skills and also receive some feedback on all of my work.”

There were lots of projects and activities for students and their families to participate in. Wilen explained that some of the activities were “science projects displayed for K-7th, solar eclipse arts and crafts projects, hands on demonstrations of lower school robotics, math and science lower school activities, music studio, art studio, E2K and math activities for upper school, AP Seminar and Research presentations, engineering projects, Mishkan gallery for Jewish Studies, and PE (Physical Education) activities.”

Rosenthal later shared that she learned about “some of the sophomores’ engineering projects and got a more in-depth explanation of [her] classmates’ projects.” Schor added he learned about “the state of American voting from Micah’s presentation.”

Bidner concluded, “There were so many fun activities and lots of great projects to look at and learn about!”
