High School Holds Elections for Grade Representatives

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

This morning, the high school held its annual grade representative elections. After Tefillah, students who were running to be grade representatives read their speeches to their grades, leaving it up to their grades to determine who they want to be their representatives for the year.

Shay Ginzburg, a junior, was not as nervous running this year as she was in previous years. She explained, “There were less candidates [this year], and I knew what to expect.” She pointed out that the order of speeches went in reverse alphabetical order, so she did not have to go first.

Madison Hoffman, a sophomore, decided to run for grade representative because she wanted to represent her grade’s “best interest.” Some goals she has for her grade are to “have two to three [grade] programs, make a grade Instagram account, use a reminder app for our grade's homework for the week, and more.”

Ginzburg decided to run because she has been a grade representative twice. She elaborated, “I love listening and advocating for others, and being a [grade] rep gives me the opportunity to do so.”

This was the first time senior and Paw Print Now Editor Ellie Strachan ran for grade representative. Public speaking can be nerve-wracking. However, Strachan shared that once she was up there, “Everyone was very supportive.” She added, “It was exciting to have the opportunity to run and make an impact in the school.”

Hannah Fineman, a senior who ran for grade representative, was feeling very nostalgic. She explained, “I was more sentimental over the fact [that] this is my last school year rather than the fact it is the last election.”

Strachan concluded, “Between the [Hebrew] play, grade events, and senior sunset, I want to be a part of making our final year at Schechter as memorable as it can be.”

Congratulations to the new grade representatives!
9th grade: Lila Harris and Eitan Guy
10th grade: Madison Hoffman and Sam Levenson
11th grade: Shay Ginzburg and Corey Flyer

The Student Government is looking forward to a great year working alongside the newly elected grade representatives.
