Schechter Receives New Scoreboard in Honor of Captain Omer Neutra HY"D

by Gavi Nitka, SSLI '28

On Thursday morning, a new scoreboard was installed in the gym. The scoreboard was generously donated by the Ginzburg family in honor of Captain Omer Neutra HY”D. This is a huge upgrade from the previous scoreboard, which was small and stationed on a table at the side of the court.

Coach and Physical Education Teacher Dylan Stephenson said, “It’s a great addition to the gym. It is a lot better than the scoreboard that we used to use.”

Jonah Resnick, a junior on the hockey team, said, “I’m really excited. It’s a big deal, honestly. You go to other schools, and they have a big scoreboard there, and for us to have one, it makes us feel more official as a team. And also, it’s just exciting to be able to see that on the wall.”

Eitan Guy, a freshman on the Schechter Storm Hockey Team, said, “It’s very generous that this family donated it to the gym, and we really, really needed it. It will be a huge asset to use in future games. It is so helpful to be able to look up from anywhere and be able to see the score, instead of crouching over to see the little one. The buzzer will also be super helpful. I am so excited to actually put it into play and see it in action. Thank you so much for the donation.”

Director of Athletics Josh Jurysta said, “The company that manufactured the scoreboard installed it last Thursday morning, and it was up in about an hour or two.” He continued, “We have a Girls Varsity Volleyball game tonight, and there is supposed to be a middle school basketball game tomorrow, and we can’t wait to use it then. It is easy and straightforward to use, and it should be easy for our scorekeepers to pick up on.”

The scoreboard was turned on for the first time on Friday morning during the Siyum Tanakh honoring Captain Neutra HY"D.
