Yad B'Yad Club Hosts First Fundraiser

 by Dalia Zareh, SSLI ‘28

Over the past two days, the Yad B’Yad club held a fundraiser to support kids with special needs. The club sold pretzels and assorted candies in order to raise money for the cause.

The club’s advisor, Leora Cohen, stated that “kids with special needs are a very important population of people to educate others about, support, and raise up.” She continued, “I think that this club is an important one among the other clubs [at Schechter] because it speaks to one of our core values as a Jewish school, which is supporting and caring for one another.”

Madison Hoffman, a co-president of Yad B’Yad, explained that the money raised would be "donated to Sulam LI, a Jewish school for kids who have special needs."

Mr. Garcia, a faculty member who bought snacks from the fundraiser, shared that it was important to him to raise money for this cause. He stated, “Special needs schools need all the help they can get.”

Cohen felt that this event was a success, and she credits the club’s presidents, Madison Hoffman and Anna Melzer, for their hard work. She stated, “[They] have done all of the legwork needed to make this event successful.” Cohen also shared that Hoffman and Melzer are "both committed and serious about their leadership and advocacy for the special needs population.”

This fundraiser was successful, and Hoffman shared that she and Melzer plan to have more fundraisers for important causes in the future.
