Student Gov't Welcomes Students Back From Midterms with Pajama Day, Milk and Cookies

by Sam Levenson, SSLI ‘27

The Student Government held a special event this morning and yesterday to reward the high school students as they return to school from midterms week. Students got to relax on Monday with a comfy Pajama Day, and they enjoyed fresh milk and chocolate chip cookies this morning.

Last week, between Wednesday and Friday, many students had midterm exams, marking the end of the second semester and the halfway point of the school year. Junior Micah Bidner, the Student Government Treasurer, said, “We [the Student Government] wanted to celebrate our wins, such as getting through midterms week. It’s a long and exhausting week, and everyone feels that. It is important to us to give back to the community.”

Monday, the first day back from midterms, was a pajama day for high school students. Students had the luxury of arriving in comfortable clothing, a hoodie, and even a blanket or slippers if they wanted. Junior Jonah Resnick said that “being able to have school be more laid back makes it a little easier to transition back into our everyday classes.”

Today, during Aruchat Esser, the Student Government served milk and cookies, a sweet and exciting treat for the students. The freshly baked cookies were homemade, and many students loved the snack. “The food was amazing. We should do this more often,” said freshman Elan Golan.

The event was meaningful to many of the students because they felt happier and better connected to the school and their friends. Resnick shared, “Everyone came by to get food, but they don’t just come by to grab a snack; people hang out and talk to each other, especially to people outside their grade who they don’t always talk to.”

Bidner explained that the Student Government had “brainstormed ways to increase school spirit, especially after midterms week, and thought this was a great idea that wasn’t very cookie cutter.”

Resnick concluded, “It’s a great way to build the community, but it helps that the cookies were really good.”
