Student Government Sells Super Bowl Boxes

 by Hannah Fineman, SSLI '25

With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, Student Government has decided to sell Schechter Super Bowl boxes to the community. This Student Government fundraiser allows the students to be competitive during the Super Bowl season and give back to the Schechter community.

Student Body President Elinor Schlissel explained, “Super Bowl boxes are an annual fundraiser the Student Government has. We sell the boxes for $10 each, and people get to choose a random box numbered 1-100. We then randomly assign numbers to the rows and columns of the boxes, and on game day, the ending numbers of the scores each team has at the end of the quarters correlate to the box, and that person wins a sum of the money.”

Maddison Hoffman, a sophomore who bought a box, said, “This fundraiser is really nice because there is a prize, which makes it more interactive. A lot of schools and companies do Super Bowl boxes, so I think it’s really nice that Schechter hopped onto the trend.”

“This fundraiser is different because, in a way, this involves sports betting,” shared senior Talia Herbst, who also bought a Super Bowl box. “Normally, Student Government sells food, but this time we are purchasing boxes to hopefully win money.”

“Super Bowl boxes bring our community together a little bit more,” shared Schlissel. “Most things we do as a Student Government are isolated to just the upper school, but in doing this, we are able to be together with students, faculty, parents, and alumni, which is an opportunity we don’t get often, so we love to take the chance when it comes up.”

Student Government is fulfilling their goal for this fundraiser, according to Hoffman: “I think that it’s nice that student government is selling the super boxes because it gives students even more of a reason to be excited for the Super Bowl. It makes me happy that we’re able to be so involved in everything we do at our school.”

Herbst said she likes the boxes because “It makes me feel good that in a very simple manner I was able to give back to the Schechter community. The Student Government does so much for us students, so I was more than happy to spend $10 and help support their cause.”

“This fundraiser is different than other fundraisers in that it lasts much longer, whereas our typical fundraisers are just a breakfast and lunch period,” explained Schlissel. She continued, “In our normal fundraisers, we are typically standing at the desk at The Wing, and people come to us to buy, but because the boxes are less in your face, we have to approach people a little bit more to buy, which can also be fun to do.”

As the Super Bowl grows nearer, the suspense of the Super Bowl boxes grows greater. Herbst summed up the experience: “I look forward to watching the Super Bowl and finding out who the lucky winner of the boxes will be.”
