AP Seminar and AP Research Students Present Projects (and Risa’s Sign-Off)

by Talia Herbst, SSLI '25

As AP exams approach, students in AP Seminar and AP Research presented their findings in preparation for the exam they are going to be taking in a few weeks.

Sophomore Madison Hoffman presented her Individual Multimedia Presentation (IMP) about artificial intelligence spreading misinformation and the negative effect it has on people. She also submitted her Individual Written Argument, which is the paper that is submitted to College Board with the student’s findings.

Hoffman shared that, thanks to her AP Seminar papers and presentations, “I learned how to better my public speaking skills and work on getting work done quickly by not procrastinating.”

Another sophomore in AP Seminar, Sam Levenson, presented his IMP about memories, nostalgia, and memorials. From this project, Levenson found that “memorials should be better designed to keep historical accuracy, while maintaining an emotional connection with visitors.”

Both Levenson and Hoffman felt that their presentations went well and that they finished within the time frame they were given. Levenson said, “I answered the spoken questions pretty well, giving evidence to support my conclusion."

Students must take both AP Seminar and AP Research courses in order to be eligible to receive a Capstone Diploma, which is a certificate students receive for taking both classes and performing well on the AP exam.

Micah Bidner, a junior in AP Research, presented his Presentation and Oral Defense (POD) about the intersection of religious values in the Conservative Jewish Movement and political affiliation. He dove into looking at why people in the Conservative movement tend to vote a certain way.

Bidner explained, “Orthodox [Jews] tend to vote more right wing and Reform [Jews] tend to vote left wing, with conservative Jews really in the middle of the political spectrum.” He chose to look at why this is and if there has been a change in the way different sects vote since October 7.

Bidner was nervous to present but felt that his presentation “went pretty well.”

Levenson is planning on taking AP Research next year and is “excited to see what new methods of research and academic study” he will get the chance to learn.

A Graduating Editor's Note:

Dear PPN Readers,

It is hard to believe that after two years, my time as an editor for Paw Print Now is coming to an end. I have been a member of PPN since freshman year, and this club has been an important aspect of my everyday life. I am so grateful to have been part of such an amazing club whose sole purpose is to inform our community about the amazing events, activities, and accomplishments of Schechter students and faculty.

I vividly remember the day that Mr. T and Talia Bidner, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief at that time, told us that there would be five Editors-in-Chief for the next two years instead of one. That day, the five of us, Yael, Sasha, Carly, Ellie, and I, were all so nervous because we thought that only one of us would be chosen to have this role. I think that we are all glad that this decision was made because the five of us have been able to evenly split the editing every week and collaborate with one another. PPN has not only taught me how to write and edit articles, but I have also learned how to be a better leader and team member.

To the readers, thank you for being PPN’s biggest supporters. Without you, there would be no PPN because you cannot have a newspaper without an audience. To the writers, thank you all so much for being a part of PPN. For those of you who are not graduating this year, I am excited to continue to read your articles over the next few years. To Mr. T, thank you for trusting the five of us to lead this club toward success, and thank you for helping me find a love for English and writing. To my fellow Co-Editors-in-Chief, Yael, Sasha, Carly, and Ellie, I will really miss our constant messages in our group chat every week. I have enjoyed working alongside the four of you over the past two years. Finally, to the new editors, Shir, Sara, Penina, Corey, and Yoni, I have full faith and confidence in you all to continue to make PPN successful. I am excited to see what the future holds for Paw Print Now, and I will be cheering you all on from afar.

Signing Off,
Risa Rogers
