As the holidays come to an end and the school weeks become full, club season begins. This afternoon, clubs began meeting, marking the start of an exciting part of the school year. The club schedules have been created and sent out, and every club has a designated letter day on which to meet. A few weeks ago, the club fair was hosted in the gym, introducing new students and freshmen to the wide array of clubs offered, and allowing high school students to sign up for any clubs they wish. Now that clubs have begun, members will be hard at work planning events, fundraisers, and their own internal projects.
Student body president Micah Bidner explained the new club dynamics and use of the new application Club Hub: “A lot of what we tried to do with Club Hub is reorganize the clubs and make sure that they’re trying to achieve their goals. I think Club Hub helps accomplish this.” Bidner continued by describing further functions of the Club Hub app: “Part of it is attendance because the app will make sure that everyone is showing up and is where they need to be, providing that extra push to be at clubs.”
Bidner's own experience with Club Hub has been beneficial. “As president of not only the school but also of various clubs," Bidner said, "I think it is going to make life so much easier because I can now see who’s coming to my club, so I can plan around that and reach out to people that aren’t showing up.”
In addition to the new Club Hub application, there is also a new role in Student Government concerning clubs. Senior Mike Benlevi is the new club manager. Bidner detailed Benlevi's role: “It is very special that we now have this new position. Mikey is working to reinvigorate the clubs, making them the best they can be. Club Hub is just one tool that’s been able to accomplish that.”
Sophomore Liba Fruithandler expressed excitement for the onset of club season. “I’m looking forward to getting to hang out with people who have the same interests as me," Fruithandler said. "I am also looking forward to having a chance to talk with people from other grades.” Fruithandler shared the list of clubs in which she is an active member. “I am in HRA, Book Club, [Anti Animal Cruelty Club] AACC, Inspiring Girls, Israel Club, and I want to help out with high school theater. I am super excited to start meeting!”
Junior Madison Hoffman shared her feelings on the beginning of clubs: “I’m excited that clubs are starting again. I’m eager to get to planning fun things and attending the meetings.” Hoffman also highlighted some of the clubs she’s in. “I’m in SADD, Paw Print (Magazine and Now), Kesher, Inspiring Girls, and Yad B’Yad.” Hoffman continued by sharing what goes on in these clubs. “In SADD," Hoffman said, "we bring in speakers and have events to teach teens about the dangers of destructive decisions. Our goal is to bring in numerous speakers, grow our club membership as well as attendance, and to make an impact on the Schechter community through the different causes we support.” Hoffman is the co-president of SADD and Yad B’Yad, vice president of Inspiring Girls, and is also on the board of Kesher Club.
Many students are very much involved in many of the clubs and activities Schechter offers. With the onset of the new Club Hub application, new club management, and a more organized system of clubs, a strong and productive year is on the horizon.
