Schechter Cross Country Competes in Championship Meet

by Tatianna Meir, SSLI '29

On Thursday, October 23, Schechter Cross Country competed in the championship meet against Stony Brook, Portledge, and LuHi. The meet took place at Stony Brook, and runners engaged in a 4-kilometer race (about 2.5 miles) covering roughly two laps around the school's campus. The course for the runners went through the school's field, track, forest, and parking lot.

Prior to the meet, senior and team captain Micah Bidner was hopeful and excited. “I've seen so much improvement from the beginning of the season until now,” Bidner said. “Everyone has been working so hard … I feel like it's going very well.” Bidner lamented the challenges of this year's schedule, noting the loss of practice time in comparison to previous years due to holidays.

Freshman and Cross Country runner Zachary Bazini said, “I feel that my performance was acceptable, considering that I did much better than last year.” He added, “Next year, I'll train harder and more often to bring back a medal.”

Junior Mikayla Rachmanova, while disappointed in her own performance, pointed out how well everyone worked together. She said, “As a team, we did amazing and really pushed through.” She added, “I think that this season has come along and that we really pushed ourselves.” Rachmanova is hopeful for the coming season.

While the team did not place this year, they remain hopeful and excited for the next season. Freshman and runner Eli Rosenthal said, “It was amazing how much everyone pushed through for the championship.”

Rosenthal concluded by saying, "Everyone showed up for each other and will continue to do so.”
