Schechter Clubs Host Fundraisers

by Gideon Levenson, SSLI '29

This week, Schechter clubs held two fundraising events. The Human Rights Activists Club (HRA) raised money yesterday for people in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa. The Kesher Club held “Pink Day” and sold food, with the money going to the Sharsheret Breast Cancer Foundation.

HRA Club President Lila Harris expressed that the situation unfolding in Jamaica “affects thousands of Jamaicans’ lives.” She added that having this role and the ability to make a difference means “it’s right to help those who need it.” Many are still homeless and in need of support.

Kesher President Sarah Shlefstein stressed the importance of Sharsheret because it “directly supports individuals and families facing breast cancer, especially in the Jewish community.” By wearing pink, the club raised awareness for this crucial cause. Shlefstein added that “we can continue to raise awareness about breast cancer through supporting organizations like Sharsheret.”

Harris concluded by reminding us, “You can help by donating to the Project Hope: ‘Donating for Hurricane Melissa’ page or sending food or clothing to other organizations that are collecting to help rebuild and support the families in Jamaica.” You can donate at give.projecthope.org.

Sharsheret is always accepting donations at sharsheret.org.

We thank these clubs and all who donated for making this world a better place.
